Konami shows off the enemies in new Castlevania

March 2, 2010

The cute little goblins above are among the enemies that you will be hacking and/or slashing if you pick up Konami’s upcoming Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The publisher released some screenshots showing off the enemies in the game today, with the pic above being one of them.

Though the PS3 and Xbox 360 game is set for a 2010 release, the exact date is “to be announced.” Lords of Shadow will be Konami’s fourth venture into the 3D realm when it comes to Castlevania. It is being developed by Mercury Steam, a Madrid, Spain based development studio.

What sets this game a part from the rest is the direct involvement of Hideo Kojima, the head of Kojima Productions and director of the Metal Gear Solid series. However, Kojima described his role as more of an “advisory” one according to an interview he did Famitsu (via “This has become a big project, one with the idea that we needed to make a Castlevania which had that same kind of feverish Western support, and that’s why Kojima Productions came in to help,” Kojima said in the interview. That alone has piqued my interest.

Mercury Steam has developed Clive Barker’s Jericho, (a PC, 360, and PS3 game released in 2007) and American McGee Presents Scrapland((a PC and Xbox game released in 2004).

To put Konami’s 3D Castlevania attempts into context: Their last tries were Legacy of Darkness for the N64 and Curse of Darkness and Lament of Innocence for the PS2. You be the judge of their batting average.
