Namco Bandai brings Majin to North America

March 2, 2010

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, a game that mimics some of the play mechanics of Team Ico’s The Last Guardian, is being localized on the PS3 and Xbox 360 by it’s Japanese publisher, Namco Bandai. Gameplay will revolve around the relationship between Majin, a young boy whose homeland has been destroyed, and a horned giant (the most obvious Last Guardian parallel).  Players will take the role of the boy and give their beast companion commands to help traverse the Forsaken Kingdom.

Given developer Game Republic’s track record (Genji: Days of the Blade, Folklore), I can’t say I have tremendously high hopes for this title. Genji was all but broken in my view, at least for the hour or so that I was able to stomach it, and Folklore was an unfortunately repetitive trek through beautiful, whimsical landscapes – a game that could have been so much more.

With any luck, they’ll have finally gotten it just right. Here’s hoping.
