Rock Band Network now LIVE

March 4, 2010

Rock Band players, your wallets may soon become much lighter.

Harmonix has announced earlier today that the Rock Band Network has gone live as of today, adding over one hundred new tracks by various groups to the over 1,100 songs already available on the games. The library, all of which is out now, features bands and artists such as Full-Source, Rose of Jericho, and The Main Drag among several others.

“The Rock Band Network Music Store gives artists at any level the opportunity to reach new fans through our deeply engaging interactive platform,” said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice president of Electronic Games and Music for MTV Networks Music Group in a release by the company. “This new pathway for discovery is a huge win for passionate music fans, as well as an opportunity for artists to promote themselves while positively impacting their bottom line.”

Musicians or Rock Band fans can sign up to submit music tracks or to play test them through Microsoft’s XNA program, which can eventually be put for sale on the network with proceeds going to the artist. For more information on how to register, hit up this link.

The service originally went live in January as a beta stage, releasing the tools required to groups interested in releasing their music over the network, as well as to give XNA testers a chance to examine the processes in finalizing a Rock Band track for general play.

“The response to and interest in the Rock Band Network has been even greater than we originally expected,” said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix Music Systems. “We’re very excited about the number of bands and labels who have geared up to participate in the Rock Band Network, as well as the number of enthusiasts who have signed up to participate in the Peer Review and Playtest processes.”

PS3 and Wii owners shouldn’t feel left out in the cold, as the two consoles will also be receiving the service, though only the best of the best tracks, as chosen by XNA community testers.
