Sony preparing a new PlayStation Smart Phone for 2010

March 4, 2010

With the iPhone a roaring success and Apple gearing up to launch the iPad later this month, Sony may be setting up its own line of devices to counter Steve Jobs’ empire this year.

A report by the Wall Street Journal states that Sony is preparing a new device to counter the iPad in what “blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation Portable, or PSP.” It aims to make use of the PlayStation Network, a move the company laid out at their CES keynote in January to link all their products to it  as well, as well as have compatibility with titles off the PlayStation Store and PSP games. It’s unknown if this includes UMD-based games or is limited strictly to the download-only titles.

With the iPhone’s gaming platform gaining tremendous momentum and the iPad set to enhance it even more, this move from Sony only seems logical.
