New Naughty Bear screenshots are, well, naughty

March 6, 2010

We might be looking at new screens of a 2010 sleeper hit, folks. Naughty Bear, developed by Quebec-based studio Artificial Mind and Movement (A2M), looks like the kind of title that’s a “refresher,” so to speak. By that I mean the game just might introduce some gameplay unlike other titles we’ve seen in recent times. Not to bash what will more than likely be amazing titles later this year like Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Halo: Reach, etc., but we’ve essentially seen all of that before (gameplay-wise, I mean). Naught Bear looks like something different. Maybe the concept isn’t “new,” because it does, for some reason, remind me a little bit of Manhunt, but it’s been a while since we’ve gotten something like that.

You play as the Naughty Bear and wreak havoc in the Island of Perfection after your fellow bear comrades “forgot” to invite you to a big birthday party. To execute Mr. Bear’s revenge, you’ll use weapons — but not just for causing physical pain to your foes. You’ll gain Naughty Points for the physical pain you dish, but also for the psychological damage you bestow on them. As you progress through the game, it’ll be tougher for you to terrorize the other bears, and according to the developer, there’s enough variety of weaponry in the game for each player to get creative with. Hopefully, that means each player might have a different experience with every cute, stuffing-filled cub they attempt to harass.

The only thing worrying me is that A2M’s most recent game, the stylized shooter WET, wasn’t very good. Let’s see if they turn it around with Naughty Bear.
