Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 gets last minute exclusive

March 9, 2010

Looks like Sony is subtly hinting to players which version to pick up at retail by an announcement right before the game’s midnight launch earlier today.

The PlayStation 3 version of the Final Fantasy XIII comes with “a secret item” in-game that can be transfered over to Final Fantasy XIV, a new MMORPG out later this year, as well as a chance to get in on the FF14 Beta when it goes online through a code that, when entered by Square Enix Members, will unlock the opportunity to get in as a tester.

Rob Dyer, Senior Vice President of Publisher Relations, SCEA, was quick to remind players heading out to buy the game the legacy the franchise has had on the PlayStation brand.

“The Final Fantasy franchise has long been synonymous with the PlayStation brand – who could forget Final Fantasy VII on PSone and Final Fantasy X proved to be a landmark achievement when it launched on PS2,” Dyer said.  “And, now we have the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy XIII for PlayStation 3 hitting store shelves today.”

Is this new item enough to swing your choice in which version to get or is it just another bullet point in the long and bloody console wars for the Sony side? Let us know what you think down below.
