God of War III cost Sony $44 million

March 9, 2010

What would you do with $44 million? Perhaps buy a buttload of video games? Travel? Hire an entourage to follow you everywhere you go, umbrellas in hand? Break the hearts of countless <insert whichever gender you prefer here>?

Well, if you’re Sony, you take that $44 million, and you tell Sony Santa Monica to make you one of the most hyped games of all time, and you tell them to make it damn good. The result would be, of course, God of War III, which is to be released on Tuesday next week.

“Believe it or not, that’s right within budget,” said John Hight, Sony Santa Monica’s director of product development in an interview with Giant Bomb.

Needless to say, we can assume Sony expects to make a bit more than that once Kratos’ next adventure  hits shelves.
