True Crime sequel set in Hong Kong to hit this Fall

March 9, 2010

USA Today reported  a sequel to the True Crime series is on its way and will hit shelves this fall. USA Today also has the first look at the game. The game does not yet have a subtitle (the first two were True Crime: Streets of LA and Streets of New York), and will be on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. As it’s set in Hong Kong, it’s probably safe to assume it will be subtitled Streets of Hong Kong.

In their first look, USA Today said the new True Crime is heavily influenced by, of all things, the 2009 “Star Trek” movie. United Front Games, the developers, are using the attitude of the JJ Abrams-directed movie as the influence for their game. As for other influences, the game’s producer, Jeff O’Connell, told USA Today the Bourne films, the more recent Bond films and other great actions films have been incorporated into the game.

In continuing with the True Crime tradition of having a cop be the main character, this new game will star Detective Wei Shen on an undercover assignment taking on Triad gangs. According to USA Today, the game is inspired by Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed.”

“Wei Shen is similar to (Leonardo) DiCaprio’s character (with) his own reasons for going undercover,” O’Connell said. “He soon finds himself in over his head.”

The game was officially announced at Spike’s Video Game Awards last December, and more was shown of it today at the Game Developers Conference. The Gazette will continue to provide you GDC coverage as it happens.
