God of War III devs back to work with two new projects

March 10, 2010

Apparently, Sony keeps the team behind God of War III on a tight leash (but on a not-so-tight budget). Instead of celebrating the completion of their highly-anticipated god-slaying simulator, Sony Santa Monica is hard at work on two new projects, one being a “short-term” project and the other being “long-term.”

Wild guess? The short-term one is some God of War III DLC (because every game needs some of that nowadays, right?), and the long-term one is probably a whole new project. Kratos’ story was supposed to come in the form of a trilogy after all. What do you guys think?

Well, it’s a mixed blessing. At least we get more of Kratos, but I’m scared that they’re going to rush it. If they do just as much as work as they did on God of War III then I have no problems at all. They did they say that the story of Kratos may be over, but not necessarily God of War. They may have a back story or create a whole new character. But then again they may be trying to compete with Halo. Again overall, as long as they keep the same work mentality as they did for the GOW III then I’m cool with it :).

Yeah, I get you. We all know what happens when cool franchises get rushed sequels (cough* Devil May Cry 2 cough*). I definitely don’t think GOW3 will be the last we see of Kratos though, even if it was only supposed to be a trilogy. The reason? It makes too much money. And we know Sony loves money. :)

True point. Not sure what they would do though :/. Now I haven’t played God of War III yet (hopefully that will change in two week). But right now, I’m not sure what exactly they could do. Maybe when he was a Spartan soldier, or we may even get a chance to play him at one of his darkest moments….when he was working for Ares. Again, it’s up in the air until I get an idea of what the ending is of God of War III.

That’d be interesting. I can imagine things going the prequel route. Let us know what you think once you play the game, btw!

So, i beat GOWIII about 13 hours ago…HOLY SHIT. Great game, awesome, fantastic. and the scale and graphics were just…..wow. Now, while Athena was helping us out….i felt like that it wasn’t really Athena :/ For some reason her personality resonated that of one of the Fates. It seems weird, but I don’t think Athena would do something like that. And she mentioned in the end how all the gods took in one of the evils when Kratos opened the box. Maybe she took one of them in and was going to betray Kratos, that’s why Kratos killed himself because he knew if this was true, he would have to go after Athena, but he didn’t want to keep his life of vengeance going….and in the end we saw the blood trail…so I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but we’ll see. We still know nothing about his brother (he was mentioned in the extras of GOWI if you guys remember). So they might do a story on that and his vengeance on his brother….w/e vengeance that would be.

Yeah, it truly was a great game. The story wasn’t it’s greatest aspect, though — Athena’s mysterious appearance/intentions, like you mentioned, was one of the things not worth raving about. The ending definitely leaves the series open for more sequels (like we discussed before). I completely forgot they mentioned he had a brother. Let’s see what route they take when Sony thinks it’s time for another sequel.

Thanks for letting us know what you thought of the game! Keep in touch with us. You can check out the rest of the site and let us know what you think about the rest of the news we’re posting.

Cheers, thanks for reading, and don’t let Titan mode keep you away from your studies!

Will do. And with the prequel thing, that’s basically what they did with Chains of Olympus. It took place (correct me if i’m wrong) 10 years before the God of War. But yeah, I’ll definitely let you know what I think they’re next route will be. And with the DLC, I think I read in an article they’re going to do a Challenge DLC :/ Adding on to the Challenge of Olympus. Maybe, but I can’t wait to see what they do :).

You know, I completely forgot about that PSP game. I haven’t played it because, sadly, I don’t have a PSP. So did you play as pre-white-skinned Kratos in that one? If not, maybe they’ll go that route in a future title. Who knows?

      • March 10, 2010 8:10 pm

no you actually play as the Mr. Ghost of Sparta. That’s why I’m saying they may try and pull the Kratos working for Ares bit. =]
