EA: Two million+ subscribers for Star Wars MMO is ‘possible’

March 18, 2010

At a recent EA meeting, the publisher expressed their high hopes for BioWare’s upcoming PC-only MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, according to Arvind Bhatia, a Sterne Agee analyst who attended the meeting.

What exactly are those hopes? That The Old Republic can gather two million-plus subscribers. According to Bhatia, EA management thinks that figure is “possible.” For EA to break even on the project, which is “largest ever development project, period, in the history of the company,” they would need a little over one million subscribers. In other words, they expect to make a profit, even though they’re spending more money on this than any other development, ever, period, in, like, the history of forever.

What do you guys think? Will you be one of EA’s two million-plus subscribers? Or will you be sticking to World of Warcraft for your MMO fix? Let us know below!
