Square Enix exploring Final Fantasy VII remake

March 23, 2010

Even though they’ve shot it down repeatedly, RPG-maker Square Enix is reopening the can of Final Fantasy VII remake, thanks to a statement made by Yoichi Iwada, the company’s CEO, at a Final Fantasy XIII launch event.

He said the company is “going to explore the possibility” of remaking FFVII, probably after witnessing the PS1-classic remain a chart-topper in the PlayStation Store. Fans’ appetites have been itching for a remake since they saw a Final Fantasy VII tech demo before the PlayStation 3’s release and Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children, the CG film. The only thing they’ve gotten so far is a digital download of the original game.

Wada said he’s giving the idea some solid thought because of the amount of fan requests and that Square Enix has got to decide “whether or not we’re going to do it… and the platform.”

Keep your fingers crossed, Cloud-lovers, and let us know what you think of Square Enix “exploring” this idea by leaving us some comments!

If the graphics are as good as XIII, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop playing.

Whoah, slow down, Tim! They haven’t decided if they’re going to even do it yet! I understand what you’re saying, though, and I think that’s something Square Enix is definitely mulling over: If we do do this, how do we please all the fans?

I respect your honesty and your opinion. I’m a man. I never read comic books. I don’t know if i could have pointed to Iron Man in a lineup of comic book characters. And i don’t particularly like movies based on comic books. BUT I love Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges, so i decided to give the movie a chance.
