Sony’s ‘nunchuk’ officially named ‘navigation controller’

April 12, 2010

At least it’s not called the Piimote.

A post on Sony’s official Web site describes and officially names the PlayStation Move’s secondary controller (the nunchuk lookalike) the PlayStation Move navigation controller. On second thought, I kind of wish it were called the Piimote (for brevity’s sake).

Sony says the navigation controller is a “must-have for core gamers” and “replicates the control features of the left side of the Dualshock3” in PlayStation Move games that require navigating an in-game character. Makes sense, right? But wait, it gets even cooler! “The navigation controller’s analog stick (or directional buttons) allows for convenient XMB™ menu navigation, and the X button, O button and PS button make it simple to enter or exit any options of the XMB™ menu,” claims the site. Wow. You mean the arduous task of moving my thumbs around a bit just got a little easier?

Sold.
