Sonic 4 delayed until late 2010, iPhone/iPod Touch confirmed

May 20, 2010

Through leaks and critical fan feedback, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 had the brakes rammed on it, delaying the 2D platformer from its Summer 2010 release to an unknown time later this year.

In a post on the official Sonic blog, a representative from Sega stated the delay was to give extra development time, allowing the publisher to incorporate fan feedback into the final game, as well as “to ensure that Sonic 4: Episode 1 is a game worthy of bearing the weight of its name.”

On top of the delay, representatives from Sega confirmed long-time rumors on today’s episode of GameSpot’s online show On the Spot the iPhone and iPod Touch version of the game, stating that the platform will contain two additional exclusive levels that take advantage of the touch and tilt functions of the game.

To cap off the announcement, Sega included a new trailer of a familiar locale to everyone following the game.

One of the loudest complaints from the fans through leaks of the game on the Internet was the inclusion of a level where Sonic is in a mine cart and the player must tilt the controller on PS3 and Wii or use the triggers on the 360 to guide him through the stage. With that in mind, should Sega really be moving in that direction for the i-releases?
