Rumor: J. Allard leaving Microsoft?

May 24, 2010

Although one of the Xbox brand’s founding fathers is still listed in Microsoft’s Global Address Book and his bio page is still up on its website, mystical sources are telling ZDNet that J. Allard is on an indefinite sabbatical and unlikely to return to the company.

The word on the street is Allard’s a tad bit upset at the axing of the Courier, a Microsoft tablet project that made it to the incubation phase: a phase in which projects have a higher chance of being commercialized than straight-up research projects. That didn’t stop Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer from vetoing the project, a move that supposedly made Allard walk out the door.

Microsoft’s statement on the whole thing: They’re “not commenting on rumor or speculation.”

We’ll keep you updated on the Allard situation as it continues to develop.
