Red Faction: Armageddon debuts with trailer, has exploding stuff

June 7, 2010

I dunno. I haven’t really liked this series since the original PS2 first-person shooter Red Faction, but apparently enough people liked last year’s Red Faction: Guerilla to warrant another sequel.

THQ announced Red Faction: Armageddon will be that sequel, and it’ll hit stores next March for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. This time around, you’ll play as Darius Mason, a descendant of former heroes Alec Mason and Samanya, as he proceeds to shoot evil doers and blow stuff up in another fight for humanity’s survival. You won’t be on the surface in this title though, as Mars’ surface has become uninhabitable. Instead, it looks like most of the game will take place in Mars’ underground, which THQ says will feature ice caverns and lava tubes.

Gameplay-wise, Volition is adding a “never-before-seen physics-based’ weapon system, which will feature some sort of “reconstruction technology” and a “Magnet Gun.” I don’t know if that electricity-shooting gun looking thing in the trailer is the Magnet Gun, but I do know one thing: Darius looks like he’s trying to pull off his best Cole MacGrath impression.

Anyway, like I said before, check out the trailer after the jump. And get excited, I guess.

Pumped for a new game, but I’m not sure about the direction Volition is going with it.
