Rumor: Activision working on Goldeneye 007 remake?

June 7, 2010

A warning in advance: as E3 gets closer, there’s always stories about games being in development with some sort of proof from an anonymous source tacked with it. For that reason, we’re filing this as a rumor.

Plans fell through between Nintendo, Rare, Microsoft, MGM and Activision when attempting to remake the classic Nintendo 64 shooter Goldeneye for the Xbox 360 and the Wii. Just from the number of parties involved, there was too much of a legal quagmire to work out.

However, Activision and Nintendo may have found a way around that quagmire. Photos received by and an email may indicate the game is being remade for the Wii and the DS.

While most of the original stages are claimed to be returning as well as an online multiplayer with up to eight players, Pierce Brosnan’s likeness will be replaced with the current James Bond, Daniel Craig.

The boxes use some artwork from “Casino Royale”, though this is due to how the title was presented in a survey to customers, including the idea of peripherals such as the above Wii gun or a gold-covered Classic Controller.

Currently, Activision holds the rights to produce games for anything to do with James Bond, which is the only concrete part of this whole rumor. We’ll keep you posted when E3 rolls around next week if he game exists or not.
