DJ Hero 2: Scratching its way to you this fall

June 8, 2010

I know it’s a bit bewildering to hear Activision is publishing a sequel to a successful IP, but it’s true, ladies and gents: There will be a sequel to last year’s tune juggler DJ Hero — this fall actually. The sequel is aptly called DJ Hero 2, but I’m unsure if it’s because it’s the second game in the series, or because Activision will be selling a special bundle, called the Party Bundle, of the game containing two (2) turntable controllers (not to mention a microphone). Actually it’s probably because Activision wants to sell twice as many copies of DJ Hero 2 than they did DJ Hero, and the 2 in the title is just a constant reminder of the goal their team of developers and marketers are striving for.

Or, the 2 represents the number you have to multiply 35 by to arrive at the number of “speaker-blowing mashups” the game will feature (70). I would say the 2 could represent the amount of artists in the game, but Activision says it’s about 85, so there goes that idea. By the way, those artists in the game are fairly popular; we’ve got some Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Metallica and other pretty cool dudes that’ll probably make you want to buy the game and stuff like that when it comes out this fall. If that isn’t enough to get you to buy it, maybe that pretty cool dude named Deadmau5 as a playable character will convince you.

And no, you don’t have to buy the party bundle. You can buy the Turntable Bundle that includes the game and one turntable, or you can be a cheapo and buy the standalone software when the game hits shelves this fall.
