3D Gaming touches down on PS3 tomorrow

June 9, 2010

In an event in Los Angeles, Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, announced that 3D games will be arriving tomorrow on the PlayStation 3 in the form of four games.

Starting tomorrow, WipeOut HD, Super Stardust HD, Pain and the demo for Motorstorm Pacific Rift will support 3D functionality, but only for people who own a PS3 and stereoscopic 3D televisions.

As an incentive, Sony is offering the four games listed above for free to anyone who buys a 3D capable Bravia television set, which Sony says will provide “more than 100 hours of gameplay.”

On top of that, Sony also confirmed the first title that utilizes the PlayStation Move to also be in 3D. The Fight: Light’s Out will be available later in the year, with 3D functionality offering “to deliver an immersive and realistic gaming experience unlike anything you’ve played before.”

Sony also reminded that PS3s will receive full 3D Blu-ray movie support later in the year by way of a firmware update.

Anyone else getting a little dull by the buzzwords HD and 3D? I had a look at the 3D Bravia TVs and I can’t say it made me want to run out and put one on layaway, but maybe the offer of four games and future Blu-ray enhancements might for some others.
