Sega confirms Dreamcast classics to Xbox Live, PSN

June 10, 2010

Sega confirmed that two classic titles from the Dreamcast will soon be making their way to digital distribution, even if the surprise was undercut by leaks from players and the ESRB alike.

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will both be hitting Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network sometime this fall. Both titles are fundamentally unchanged from their originals, though Sega is touting inclusions of higher resolution visuals, surround sound. online leaderboards, and achievement/trophy support.

“The Dreamcast is fondly remembered by a large community of dedicated fans as a console that was ahead of its time in terms of graphics, quality and online gaming” said Haruki Satomi, vice president of digital business at Sega of America and Sega Europe. “There are few things that are more requested from us than making Dreamcast classics available for download in today’s digital market place. We’re very excited to begin offering gamers our beloved Dreamcast titles again on the current console systems.”

The releases are to honor the 11th anniversary of the system’s launch in the U.S. on Sept. 9, 1999. In its lifespan, the Dreamcast had over 650 titles released on it. Although PCs were also listed by the ESRB, there’s no word of a Steam release so far.
