Kevin Durant scores NBA Elite 2011 cover

June 22, 2010

EA confirmed today that Kevin Durant, the NBA’s youngest-ever scoring champion and small forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder, will grace the cover of their NBA franchise reboot, NBA Elite 2011. He’s now only the third player in EA’s NBA franchise history to be on the cover of both their NBA game and their NCAA game (Durant was on the cover of NCAA March Madness 08.) Even as one of the NBA’s quickly-emerging young stars, it’s going to be a tough marketing battle for KD, considering the competition is sporting, oh, only the greatest player to ever lace them up on their cover. I’m sure that doesn’t bother KD, though. From what I’ve heard, the kid is extremely mild-mannered. He’d probably just say something like, “cool.” In fact, he does:

“I’ve always been a fan of EA Sports,” he said in an EA presser. “This has been an exciting year for me and the team, and capping it off with being on the cover of NBA Elite 11 is cool.”

Told you so! Let’s see if EA can make Elite as smooth as KD’s jumper; God knows their NBA franchise needs it.
